Lesser Chip Loads and Chatter-free Machining with M.A. Ford’s 6-Flute HSS Countersinks. Presenting a new style of specialty tool from M.A. Ford is a straight shank, 6-flute designed countersinks. Made from High-Speed Steel, it is widely applied to enlarge the opening of a hole on a wide range of workpiece material, producing a flat bottom for a socket-head screw to fit flush with the surface. Countersinks have a greater range of applications under its portfolio. Widen a drill hole and facilitates subsequent tapping with Countersinking, whereas Deburring will remove the burr on the drill hole for safety and/or optical reasons. M.A. Ford countersinks come in standard sizes of included angles 60°, 82°, 90°, 100°, and 120° to fit most head screws. The selection of the right countersink angle depends on the application and works well with low cutting speed. Countersinks with 82°included angles are our bestseller. All M.A. Ford HSS countersinks are heat treated in an electronically controlled vacuum furnace. The tool also undergoes a special process called Steam Homogenous Process (black oxide coating). This process is like a final tempering, relieving internal grinding stresses. The result is a much tougher cutting edge that stays sharper, longer. Additionally, the Steam Homogeneous Process provides a tough, hard, porous oxide film on the tool that is sufficient enough to retain cutting oil, further reducing frictional heat and extending tool life coated with black oxide to prolong tool life for use in the industrial setting. M.A. Ford has developed an enviable global reputation in tooling design and manufacturing over the last 100 years. The company is well-known for its performance and precision in advanced solid carbide tooling, serving over 60 countries worldwide. The innovative cutting geometries, materials, and coating technologies provide effective manufacturing solutions to a diverse range of industries from agriculture and construction to aerospace, power generation, and automotive. Chip loads are generally smaller and chatter-free machining is possible
